Coreyswave: Surf Lesson Specialists

Intro
Everyone seems to want to learn how to surf. It has been marketed heavily, has become trendy, and now people are willing to pay a lot to learn how to surf quickly and correctly. There are many talented surfers giving surf lessons on Long Island and in general they do a fair job. However, just because someone is a talented surfer, does not make that person a competent and effective teacher of the art. To my knowledge CoreysWave Professional Surf Instruction provides the most comprehensive and rewarding surf lessons that anyone can find in New York, and quite possibly on the eastern seaboard. Even in comparison to those surfers who do offer valuable surf instruction there is a quality of excellence and fluid precision that sets CoreysWave apart from their competitors. I have spent a great deal of time observing this team of surf instructors and have been able to determine a couple of elements which contribute to the high level of satisfaction that CoreysWave students experience.
Leadership
The co-founders of the company are Corey and Kristin Senese and they each bring essential and unique leadership qualities to this unusual field. Corey is an incredibly talented surfer who can ride anything that floats, has a lifetime of water knowledge, finds authentic enjoyment in helping people learn and has the rare ability to be able to translate what he knows about the ocean in a relatable way to his students. Due to these abilities Corey has refined the art of teaching surfing so that people learn quickly and have fun doing so. He sets the example, not only for how people should surf, but how they should conduct themselves in the ocean. Kristin handles the administrative end of the company and is just as uniquely talented. Due to the volume of students that CoreysWave may teach in a single day, any lack of organization and attention to detail could lead to a chaotic mess that would disorient and displease both the students and the instructors. Having a communication degree from Rutgers University and a master degree in counseling in higher education from UCLA, Kristin has the understanding, patience and wherewithal to coordinate multiple lessons with multiple instructors in a structured and organized way. She is constantly busy from sunrise to well after sunset, meeting with students, preparing them for lessons, scheduling lessons on the phone, writing emails, and working hard to make CoreysWave the most professional and sophisticated surf lesson experience anyone is likely to find. With Kristin, clients don’t get the stereotypical surfer responses that consist of slow speech, long pauses and unintelligible surf jargon but instead deal with someone who is intelligent and precise. The combo of Corey’s surf knowledge and Kristin’s communication skills set the foundation for the company to rest upon.
The Team
The CoreysWave surf team is comprised of a group of talented surfers who have surfed with and been trained by Corey for years. This not only ensures excellence in their own surfing, but also promises that they are all especially competent teachers because Corey shows each instructor how to pick out the technical errors in students’ surfing mechanics and teaches how to explain these errors so the student can correct them. Also, the entire CoreysWave team is a close knit group of friends that have all surfed together for most of their lives. What this does is create an atmosphere on land and in the water that is energetic and fun, while still conducive to learning. The chemistry and experience of the CoreysWave team makes them the most enjoyable group of surf instructors to be around and, besides Corey himself, the most talented.
The Approach
Most surf lessons take place in the white water, which is actually further inside of where actual surfers catch and ride waves. These waves are weaker, have shorter rides, and allow the rider to tap less of the potential energy, and the potential joy, that the wave can provide. By contrast CoreysWave makes it a point to conduct surf lessons out beyond where the waves break. Through properly preparing a student beforehand and assisting them in timing and catching the wave, students have the opportunity to ride a wave from its start to finish. This approach gives students more time to stand, longer rides, and the opportunity to try to turn and ride down the face of the wave, instead of just going straight in white water. It offers first time students a way for them to be able to grasp what it actually means to surf in the same realm that experienced surfers do. Because of this approach the instructors can give lessons to people in waves from 1 foot up to whatever size the student can handle. Due to the CoreysWave team’s extensive experience and this approach they have the ability to give surf lessons to advanced students and help them to progress.
The Ending
Due to this combination of elements and the chemistry between the members of CoreysWave, they are the most complete group of instructors I have witnessed or heard about. They all have an undeniable love for surfing, but all surfers do because it is an amazing activity. The most distinct characteristic about the team is that they find pleasure in giving other people something as transcendental and inspiring as the surfing life. As Corey of CoreysWave puts it, “There’s nothing more rewarding than that—to help someone to achieve that amazing life-high.” To learn more or contact CoreysWave visit them at their website, www.CoreysWave.com or contact Kristin directly at 516-639-4879.
