These waves are weaker, have shorter rides, and allow the rider to tap less of the potential energy, and the potential joy, that the wave can provide. Through properly preparing a student beforehand and assisting them in timing and catching the wave, students have the opportunity to ride a wave from its start to finish. This approach gives students more time to stand, longer rides, and the opportunity to try to turn and ride down the face of the wave, instead of just going straight in white water. It offers first time students a way for them to be able to grasp what it actually means to surf in the same realm that experienced surfers do.
